Meet The Chef

Richard "Ricky" Lagoc Butay

Chef | Owner

Chef Ricky has over 20 years of experience in the culinary industry. He was born and raised on the westside of Kauai and is a proud graduate of Waimea High School.

He attended Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon where he was classically trained in French Cuisine.

Chef Ricky has worked alongside world renowned chefs such as, Roy Yamaguchi, Russell Siu, and Mark Oyama. In 2006, he was voted “People’s Choice” at the Taste of Hawaii while he was the Sous Chef at Kauai Pasta Kapaa.

Chef Ricky’s mission is to provide Epic Eats one bite at a time, by infusing French cuisine with a local flare. His vision is to give back to the community he loves so much by using local vendors and products.

Chef Ricky helped pioneer the Salvation Army Hanapepe Corp’s Soup Kitchen. He is also an active member and leader of Word of Life Hawai’i and cooks for community organizations and events.

 

Chef Ricky lives in Kapaa with his wife, Puna, and their five children, Keyrsten, Kaya, Lipai, Līhau, and Rhicky. He would like to thank God, his family, and friends for their love, support, and encouragement over the years.
